This feature provides a manual search tool to help you find articles in the database when the automatic search doesn't quite hit the mark. Think of it as your trusty backup detective for parts.

Why do you need it?

When you're importing Bill of Materials (BOMs), sometimes the system might not automatically recognize every article. To prevent creating duplicate articles and keep our database tidy, it's crucial to manually verify if an article already exists before adding a new one. This saves time and ensures data accuracy.

Who is it for and what do you need?

  • Audience: All users who work with BOMs.
  • Prerequisites: You need access to the BOM import module.

How it Works: Step-by-Step Guide to Manual Search

Follow these steps to effectively search for articles:

A. Initiate the Manual Search

  1. From the BOM "Upload" window, select the specific line item you want to search for.
  2. Click the "Manual Search" button.

    B. Enter Your Search Term

  3. In the search field, enter your search term. You can use either a description or an MPN (Manufacturer Part Number).
  4. Click the magnifying glass icon to start your search.

    C. Understand Your Search Options

  5. The manual search offers various ways to find what you're looking for:
  6. Description Search:

    - Default Description: Searches for descriptions that are equivalent to your search term.

    - Part Code: Looks for articles based on equivalent article codes.

    - Customer Reference: Finds articles using equivalent customer references.

    - Replacement Word: Searches for articles using word equivalents.

    - Restricted Customer Reference: Narrows down the search to articles with the "same customer" and "same customer reference."

    - Normalized Description: Searches articles using both the article description and customer description, applying standardized terminology (e.g., "Resistor Array" instead of just "Resistor").

  7. MPN (Manufacturer Part Number) Search:

    - Starts with + Manufacturer Restricted: Searches for MPNs that begin with your entered characters and are associated with a specific manufacturer.

    - Starts with: Searches for MPNs that simply begin with your entered characters, regardless of manufacturer.

    - Contains + Manufacturer Restricted: Finds MPNs that include your entered characters anywhere within them and are linked to a specific manufacturer.

    -  Contains: Searches for MPNs that include your entered characters anywhere within them.

    D. Validate or Create Your Article

  8. Once you've found the correct article:  select an existing article, click "Assign".
  9. If you've confirmed the article doesn't exist and you need to add it, click "Create" to make a new article.

    E.  Explore Display Options

You can customize how your search results are displayed:

  10. View Parts: This option lists only the articles relevant to your current BOM import context.
  11. View Prices of All Parts: This more detailed view shows prices, articles, and important costing information like MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity), MPQ (Minimum Pack Quantity), and Lead Time. This is super helpful for valuation purposes!

F. Understand Price Information Icons (for Valuation)

When viewing price information, you'll see a few helpful icons:
